In Module 13, you learned how to talk about hypothetical situations, vacations, travel, movement, the conditional mood, and object pronouns with commands.
You began by using the conditionnel prĂ©sent to talk about imagined situations. You practiced questions and answers such as Tu ferais ça ?, Quâest-ce que tu ferais ?, Je voyagerais, and Je ne ferais pas ça. You also learned the useful pattern si + imparfait, conditionnel, as in Si jâavais le temps, je voyagerais and Si jâĂ©tais toi, je prendrais le bus.
You then expanded your ability to discuss hypothetical choices with expressions like Tu choisirais quoi ?, Tu irais oĂč ?, Ă ta place, je prendrais le bus, and Je pense que ce serait une bonne idĂ©e. You also practiced polite conditional forms such as Je voudrais un cafĂ© and Vous pourriez rĂ©pĂ©ter ?
You learned vocabulary for vacations and travel, including les vacances, un voyage, un billet, un passeport, une valise, un hĂŽtel, une rĂ©servation, un vol, une gare, and un aĂ©roport. You practiced talking about travel plans with sentences such as Je vais voyager cet Ă©tĂ©, Je vais prendre lâavion, Je vais rĂ©server un hĂŽtel, and Tu restes combien de temps ?
You also learned how to indicate movement with verbs such as conduire, aller, venir, partir, arriver, rentrer, sortir, monter, and descendre. You practiced movement expressions such as Je vais Ă la gare, Je viens du cafĂ©, Je pars pour MontrĂ©al, Je monte dans le bus, and Je descends du train. You also reviewed y and en for places, as in Jây vais and Jâen viens.
In the grammar sections, you studied the conditionnel prĂ©sent more fully. You learned that it uses the future stem plus imparfait endings: je voyagerais, tu choisirais, nous habiterions, je serais, jâaurais, jâirais, je ferais, je pourrais, je voudrais, and je devrais. You used it for hypothetical situations, polite requests, and softer advice.
Finally, you learned how to use object pronouns with the imperative. You practiced affirmative commands such as Regarde-le, AchĂšte-la, Prends-les, Parle-lui, Ăcris-leur, Vas-y, and Prends-en. You also learned negative commands such as Ne le regarde pas, Ne lui parle pas, Nây va pas, and Nâen prends pas.
By the end of Module 13, you should be able to talk about hypothetical situations, discuss travel and vacations, describe movement and transportation, use the conditional mood, and place object pronouns correctly with affirmative and negative commands.
Module 14 will build on these skills by helping you ask for opinions about what is essential or important, explain opinions in more detail, talk about a countryâs history and languages, link verbs to infinitives with Ă and de, use quantifiers such as tout, tous, toute, and toutes, and begin using the present subjunctive to say what one should do.
