You then learned how to express emotional reactions with phrases such as Ăa me touche, Ăa mâinquiĂšte, Ăa me rend triste, Ăa me fait peur, Ăa me fait rĂ©flĂ©chir, and Je trouve ça inspirant. You practiced connecting reactions to reasons with parce que, car, and puisque.
You expanded your vocabulary for social and environmental issues, including la pauvretĂ©, lâinjustice, lâinĂ©galitĂ©, la discrimination, le logement, les droits humains, lâenvironnement, la pollution, le changement climatique, les dĂ©chets, and les ressources naturelles. You practiced giving opinions and recommendations with sentences such as Je pense que câest un problĂšme sĂ©rieux, Selon moi, il faut agir, Il faut protĂ©ger lâenvironnement, and Il faut que nous agissions.
In the grammar sections, you learned how to indicate uncertainty using the present subjunctive after expressions such as je ne suis pas sĂ»r que, je doute que, il est possible que, il se peut que, je ne pense pas que, and je ne crois pas que. You practiced forms such as Je ne suis pas sĂ»r que ce soit vrai, Il est possible quâil vienne, Je doute que nous puissions partir, and Je ne pense pas que tout le monde comprenne.
You also learned how to say what one wishes using the present subjunctive. You practiced souhaiter que, vouloir que, and jâaimerais que, with examples such as Je souhaite que tu rĂ©ussisses, Je veux que tu comprennes, Jâaimerais que nous parlions, and Je ne veux pas que tu partes. You also learned that espĂ©rer que usually takes the indicative, as in JâespĂšre que tu vas bien.
Finally, you learned when to use an infinitive versus the subjunctive. You saw that the infinitive is used for same-subject or general statements, such as Je veux partir, Il faut agir, and Il est important de comprendre. The subjunctive is used when there is a different or specific subject after que, such as Je veux que tu partes, Il faut que nous agissions, and Il est important que tu comprennes.
By the end of Module 15, you should be able to express interest, react emotionally to a topic, discuss social and environmental issues, express uncertainty, state wishes and desires, and choose between infinitive structures and the present subjunctive.
Module 16 will build on these skills by helping you seek someoneâs input, take leave of people and wish them well, talk about French artists, and describe artistic styles and mediums.
