4.3.1. The Main Idea

To talk about family members and pets, use ma famille, mon père, ma mère, and other family words.

C’est ma famille.	It’s my family.
Voici mon père.	Here is my father.
Voici ma mère.	Here is my mother.
J’ai un chien.	I have a dog.
J’ai un chat.	I have a cat.

4.3.2. Asking About Family

Tu as une famille ?	Do you have a family?
Tu as des frères et sœurs ?	Do you have siblings?
Tu as un frère ?	Do you have a brother?
Tu as une sœur ?	Do you have a sister?
Tu as des animaux ?	Do you have pets?
Tu as un animal de compagnie ?	Do you have a pet?

4.3.3. Main Answer Patterns

Use mon, ma, and mes to say my.

Use mon before a feminine word that begins with a vowel sound.

C’est mon frère.	This is my brother.
C’est ma sœur.	This is my sister.
Ce sont mes parents.	These are my parents.
Ce sont mes grands-parents.	These are my grandparents.

Use c’est for one person or thing.

Use ce sont for more than one person or thing.

Before a vowel sound, de becomes d’.
