You have now completed Module 1: Ça commence! In this module, you built your first foundation in French by learning greetings, simple conversation patterns, the French alphabet, accent marks, numbers, days, months, seasons, classroom vocabulary, articles, plurals, subject pronouns, and the verb être.
You learned how to greet someone, say goodbye, ask how someone is doing, and return a question politely or casually. You also practiced how French works at the word level: how nouns can be masculine or feminine, how singular words become plural, and how articles such as un, une, des, le, la, l’, and les help organize meaning.
By the end of this module, you should be able to recognize many beginner French words and phrases, count from 0 to 69, talk about basic time expressions, identify classroom and student-life vocabulary, and understand the first patterns used to build simple French sentences.
This module is your starting point. Before you move forward, make sure you feel comfortable with the core vocabulary, articles, subject pronouns, and être. In the next module, you will begin expanding from simple foundations into more descriptive communication: asking about age, nationality, and where people are from, describing people and things with adjectives, and expressing possession with avoir.
