In Module 14, you learned how to ask for opinions, explain opinions in more detail, talk about countries, history, and languages, link verbs to infinitives, use quantifiers, and introduce the present subjunctive.
You began by asking someoneâs opinion about what is important or essential with expressions such as Ă ton avis ?, Quâest-ce que tu en penses ?, Tu penses que câest important ?, Quâest-ce qui est essentiel ?, and Quâest-ce qui est le plus important ? You also practiced giving opinions with Ă mon avis, Je pense que, Je crois que, Pour moi, and Selon moi.
You then learned how to expand an opinion by explaining why. You practiced asking for reasons with Pourquoi tu penses ça ?, Tu peux expliquer pourquoi ?, and Quâest-ce qui te fait penser ça ? You also used connectors such as parce que, car, puisque, en plus, aussi, and par exemple to make your opinions richer and clearer.
You learned vocabulary for talking about a countryâs history and language, including un pays, une rĂ©gion, la capitale, lâhistoire, la culture, une langue, une langue officielle, and une population. You practiced sentences such as Le Canada est en AmĂ©rique du Nord, Le français est une langue officielle du Canada, Ce pays a une longue histoire, and Je pense que lâhistoire est importante parce quâelle aide Ă comprendre le prĂ©sent.
In the grammar sections, you studied how verbs connect to infinitives with no preposition, with à , or with de. You reviewed direct patterns such as je veux voyager, je peux conduire, and je dois étudier, then added patterns such as commencer à , continuer à , apprendre à , essayer de, décider de, avoir besoin de, and avoir envie de.
You also learned how to specify groups of people and things with tout, toute, tous, and toutes. You practiced expressions such as tout le pays, toute la ville, tous les étudiants, toutes les langues, and tout le monde. You also used other quantifiers such as beaucoup de, peu de, assez de, trop de, plusieurs, quelques, chaque, la plupart de, and aucun / aucune.
Finally, you learned how to say what someone should or must do with the present subjunctive after expressions such as il faut que, il est important que, il est essentiel que, and il ne faut pas que. You practiced forms such as Il faut que tu Ă©tudies, Il faut que nous partions, Il est important que tu comprennes, Il faut quâelle aille Ă la gare, and Il faut que nous fassions attention.
By the end of Module 14, you should be able to ask for and explain opinions, talk about a countryâs history and languages, use common verb patterns with Ă and de, describe whole groups with quantifiers, and use the present subjunctive after expressions of necessity and importance.
Module 15 will build on these skills by helping you express interest, describe emotional reactions, discuss social and environmental issues, indicate uncertainty with the subjunctive, say what you wish, and compare infinitive structures with the subjunctive.
